A transformative movement is taking shape in Australia, one that reaches far beyond hair & beauty trends, fashion, or personal style. It is a movement about identity, dignity, representation, and the fundamental right to be seen as you are.

Hair Freedom EXPO is a half-day initiative that will bring together industry leaders, educators, salon professionals, creatives, advocates, and multicultural communities at Novotel Parramatta for a landmark event dedicated to challenging hair discrimination and celebrating the beauty of textured hair.

Presented by Enable Women Africa, Hair Freedom EXPO is more than an exhibition. It is a powerful platform for education, empowerment, and social change, designed to reshape conversations around coily, curly, and kinky hair across Australia and beyond.

As conversations around diversity and inclusion continue to evolve globally, Hair Freedom EXPO arrives at a pivotal moment. Across schools, workplaces, sporting organisations, and public spaces, many women and girls continue to experience bias because of how their natural hair grows. For Black women in particular, hair remains one of the most visible and misunderstood expressions of identity.

Marcala

This event seeks to change that.

Guests will experience a dynamic program featuring live hair demonstrations, hands-on workshops, keynote presentations, panel discussions, networking opportunities, an exhibitor marketplace, and complimentary showbags.

International voices will also join the conversation, including Professor Wendy Greene, founder of the global #FreeTheHair movement and one of the legal architects behind the landmark CROWN Act legislation in the United States.

Together, these voices will explore the intersection of beauty, culture, education, leadership, and equity, creating a space where lived experience and professional expertise meet.

At the heart of the movement is Enable Women Africa founder Gloria Tabi, whose personal journey inspired a mission now resonating with women across continents.

For years, Gloria wore wigs while navigating professional life in Australia. Like many Black women, she understood the unspoken pressures surrounding appearance, professionalism, and acceptance. Yet a visit to Ghana in 2023 would profoundly change her perspective.

In the village of Kwabeng, she watched women and girls move confidently through daily life wearing their natural hair, braided, coiled, wrapped, and celebrated. There was no apology. No need to conform. Only confidence, beauty, and belonging.

One young girl’s quiet confidence left a lasting impression. At the same time, Gloria noticed a different reality emerging in urban environments, where many young Black girls felt compelled to wear wigs not as a fashion choice, but as a form of protection from judgement and exclusion.

The contrast was impossible to ignore.

Returning to Australia, Gloria made a life-changing decision: she would stop hiding her own natural hair. What began as a personal act of courage became the foundation of Enable Women Africa, a growing organisation dedicated to ending hair discrimination, restoring confidence, and creating opportunities for women and girls to embrace their authentic selves.

Today, that mission has evolved into Hair Freedom EXPO.

The event also reflects significant demographic and cultural shifts. Australia’s African-born population has more than doubled over the past two decades, contributing to a vibrant multicultural society that deserves greater representation across beauty, education, and professional sectors. Yet despite this growth, textured hair education remains limited in many mainstream systems.

Hair Freedom EXPO addresses this gap by bringing together community voices and industry expertise to inspire meaningful change.

For sponsors and industry partners, the opportunity extends beyond visibility.

Supporting Hair Freedom EXPO means investing in a movement with genuine cultural, social, and commercial impact. It provides access to one of the fastest-growing sectors in global beauty while demonstrating authentic leadership in diversity and inclusion. Most importantly, it helps create a future where no child feels pressured to hide who they are in order to belong.

Because hair is never just hair. It carries culture. It tells stories. It reflects heritage. It shapes confidence.

The Hair Freedom EXPO also responds to an often-overlooked environmental issue: the significant waste generated from disposable wigs and synthetic hair extensions to landfill. By shifting the narrative toward natural hair acceptance, women and girls are given the freedom to wear their natural hair without fear, judgement, or limitation to discover the power of being fully themselves.

Hair Freedom EXPO 2026 is not simply an event. It is the beginning of a new chapter in hair, identity, and inclusion.
