UK’s Unsung Heroes Honoured at Inaugural Community, Corporate and Culture Awards in London

London, March 3, 2025 – Some of the UK’s most inspiring yet often overlooked individuals were celebrated at the first-ever Community, Corporate, and Culture Awards (CCCAs), a powerful event dedicated to recognising those who make a real difference in their communities.

Launched by co-founders Mahari Hay and Mexy Thomas, the CCCAs aim to highlight the contributions of individuals and organisations that uplift and strengthen society. Hosted by comedian Thanyia Moore, the prestigious event took place at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London, and saw Dawn Butler MP among the VIP guests in attendance.

The awards ceremony was an emotional evening filled with powerful stories of resilience, dedication, and impact. The audience was visibly moved as winners shared their journeys, proving that community spirit remains strong in the UK.

Honouring the Inspirational Mother of the Year

One of the night’s most heartwarming moments came as Kameese Davies, founder of the natural hair care brand Nylah’s Natural, received the Inspirational Mother of the Year Award. Based in the West Midlands, Kameese has successfully balanced motherhood with entrepreneurship, creating innovative, natural hair care products while also fostering a sense of empowerment for women navigating similar journeys.

Recognising a Leader in the Fight Against Youth Violence

Another standout winner was Winston Goode, founder and CEO of Juvenis, who was awarded the Community Impact Leader Award. Winston’s work in tackling youth violence and supporting young Londoners has earned him widespread recognition, including for his influential report, Life As A Top Boy. His organisation provides a holistic support system by engaging with young people, their families, and schools, helping to create safer and more hopeful futures.

Celebrating Public Sector Excellence

Alton Brown, another London-based changemaker, was honoured with the Public Sector Excellence Award. His dedication to using sport and art to address social inequalities and create opportunities for young people has had a lasting impact. As a trustee for two leading youth charities, he played a pivotal role in the Bring the Power programme, which reached nearly one million young people across 16 countries.

Other Notable Winners

The CCCAs recognised a wide range of individuals and organisations making significant contributions, including:

Brixton Soup Kitchen – Charity of the Year Award for serving over 355,000 meals through food drop-offs and outreach sessions since 2013.

Fiddy Patel – Role Model of the Year Award for her work with Bolton United Girls and her commitment to establishing a local youth club.

Lorraine Dublin – Creative Success Award for her pioneering work as the lead microbraid wig stylist for the blockbuster film Wicked!

Mayowa Quadri – Sporting Icon on the Year Award for being a Creator Fund ambassador, and a multi-talented individual who is a dedicated Chelsea fan, and has forged a collaborative and friendly relationship with the club.

In his capacity as the head of brand at VERSUS, he infuses their work with vibrancy and energy, and maintains a keen awareness of cultural trends. Serving as an ambassador and partner to the Blue Creator Fund, his ideas, input and support have played a crucial role in the project’s success.

Corporate and Institutional Support

The event was backed by major organisations, reflecting the importance of recognising community contributions. Wickes served as the headline sponsor, with Sarah Taitt, its Chief Property and Services Officer, stating:

“The award ceremony was a truly inspiring event, celebrating the selfless dedication of individuals who go above and beyond for their communities. We are proud to support this initiative and celebrate these unsung heroes.”

HSBC also supported the awards as a Gold Participating Organisation, with Shauna Roper, Global Head of DE&I, expressing admiration for the winners:

“Seeing the passion and commitment of these incredible individuals was humbling. At HSBC, we believe in the power of community, and it’s an honour to help recognise those who work tirelessly to improve the lives of others.”

Additionally, the BBC participated in the event, with Annisha Taylor, Head of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, stating:

“It was an unforgettable evening filled with stories of resilience, kindness, and unwavering commitment. We are proud to stand alongside such inspirational figures and support an event that shines a light on the true changemakers in our communities.”

A Celebration of Unsung Heroes

Reflecting on the success of the night, co-founder Mahari Hay described the event as “a movie – a powerful celebration of the unsung heroes in our communities.” He added:

“Their dedication and selflessness often go unnoticed, but tonight, we gave them the recognition they truly deserve. We are incredibly proud to honour their contributions and shine a spotlight on their inspiring work.”

The inaugural Community, Corporate, and Culture Awards have set a new standard in recognising the individuals and organisations working behind the scenes to create a better future for all.

As the event grows, it promises to continue amplifying the voices of those making a difference in communities across the UK.
