ENFIELD — In a night defined by cultural pride and collective resilience, the London Borough of Enfield came together Friday evening for the Mayor’s Charity Gala, hosted by Councillor Margaret Greer.

The event, held on March 13, was not merely a formal dinner; it was a powerful affirmation of the borough’s diverse spirit and a celebration of a historic mayoral term.

As the first Black woman of Caribbean heritage to serve as Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Greer has spent her year in office “amplifying the unheard.” Last night’s gala served as the pinnacle of that mission, raising vital funds for her three chosen charities: Enfield Black Heritage Hub, Enfield Sickle Cell Society, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

A Night of Unity and Heritage

The atmosphere was electric as community leaders, residents, and dignitaries gathered to support causes that sit at the heart of the diaspora and the wider Enfield community. Cllr Greer, whose journey from Hackney to the mayoralty is a testament to unwavering faith and service, addressed the room with the grace that has become her trademark.

“Community is not just about where we live—it’s about how we uplift, support, and empower one another,” Mayor Greer remarked during her keynote. “Tonight, we aren’t just raising funds; we are weaving a tapestry of truth and equity that ensures every resident feels seen and valued.”

The evening featured a vibrant showcase of local talent, reflecting Greer’s mayoral themes of Faith, Community Health & Well-being, and Young People. From soul-stirring performances to heartfelt testimonials from the charities involved, the gala underscored the “power of us” that Greer has championed since her inauguration in May 2025.

Supporting the Cause

The funds raised will be split equally between the three organisations, each providing a lifeline to the borough:

• Enfield Black Heritage Hub: Preserving and celebrating the rich history of the African and Caribbean diaspora in North London.

• Enfield Sickle Cell Society: Providing essential advocacy and support for those living with the genetic blood disorder.

• Macmillan Cancer Support: Ensuring no one faces a cancer diagnosis alone.

For many in attendance, the gala was a reminder of why representation matters. Cllr Greer’s presence in the mayoral robes is a “bridge for the next generation,” proving that heritage is not a barrier to leadership, but the very foundation of it.

Continuing the Journey

As the evening concluded, the sense of momentum was palpable. While the gala marked a major milestone, the Mayor’s fundraising efforts continue. Residents are encouraged to contribute through the official Mayor’s Charity Fund and upcoming local activities hosted by the Enfield Black Heritage Hub.

Black Wall St. Media stands as a witness to this historic term, celebrating a leader who has turned “adversity into advocacy” and ensured that the light of Enfield’s diverse community shines brighter than ever.
