“GJDC U.K. South Mobilisation: Uniting Diaspora Strengths for Success”

Last Thursday’s launch event for the U.K. South Global Jamaica Diaspora Council (GJDC) proved a resounding success, with member Nathaniel Peat unveiling strategic goals and objectives at the Jamaican High Commission in London.

The evening, hailed as a ‘space for collective excellence and inspirational change,’ drew a diverse crowd of diaspora professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, banking leaders, and even United Nations peacekeepers, with 80% being first-time participants in Jamaica Diaspora affairs.

Hosted by Janelle Raeburn and featuring Reverend Micheal King’s opening prayer, the event included a pre-recorded message from Senator The Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, shedding light on the GJDC’s mission. Marsha Jones, Director of Quality at Southwest London Integrated Care Board NHS, and Natasha Ferguson, Strategic and Communications Director, unveiled the U.K. South Communication Strategy and discussed opportunities for sector specialists.

Nathaniel Peat, elected as the U.K. South Representative for the GJDC, outlined the region’s strategic goals and vision, emphasizing diaspora partnerships, U.K. and Jamaica relations, social impact, advocacy, and investment pathways as his key objectives.

The two-year strategy aims to create awareness, enhance understanding, and foster engagement within the diaspora for active participation in the U.K. South GJDC Strategy.

Closing the night with a call for sector specialists in key areas such as Citizen Security, Crime and Violence, Education, Health, Agriculture, and more, the event featured a captivating medley performance by roots/soul vocalist Teshay Makeda and faith-based artist Bravest Maestro.

Special thanks to sponsors The Safety Box CIC, VM Group, Port Royal Pattie’s, Empowerment2Health (Salad Masters), and Grace Foods UK for making this event possible.
