Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Why Black Wall St. Media Is Supporting MBA 30 and the Emerging Entrepreneur Awards 2025

At Black Wall St. Media, our mission is clear: to amplify the voices that too often go unheard, and to spotlight the brilliance that has been historically overlooked. That’s why we’re proud to support the MBA 30 Emerging Entrepreneur Awards 2025 — a bold initiative from the Black British Initiative (BBI) in partnership with SOAS, DMG Ventures, and Metro.

This is more than just an awards show. It’s a movement — one that’s redefining what access, opportunity, and representation look like for Black entrepreneurs in the UK.

FOUNDER OF BBI: DARREN MILLER

Meet the Man Behind the Mission: Darren Miller

To understand the power of this initiative, we need to understand the vision of its founder — Darren Miller.

Darren’s entrepreneurial journey didn’t begin with privilege. Like many Black Britons, he wasn’t born into a world of business mentors, venture capital networks, or inherited advantages. His path was self-made — built from experience, resilience, and a deep recognition of the structural barriers facing Black entrepreneurs.

What Darren saw — and what many live every day — is this simple truth:

Talent alone is not enough.
Without access to education, networks, and capital, even the most dynamic business ideas struggle to scale or succeed.

That insight led Darren to launch BBI — not just as an initiative, but as a long-overdue response to the systemic gaps that limit Black entrepreneurial potential in the UK.

Introducing MBA 30: A Mini MBA Reimagined

At the heart of BBI’s work is MBA 30, the UK’s only accredited mini MBA designed specifically for underserved Black entrepreneurs.

Why MBA 30 Matters:

Traditional MBA programs can cost up to £100,000 and require two years of full-time study. For most Black founders, that kind of access is simply not realistic.

MBA 30 changes the game:

  • Hybrid format: 9 days over 4 weeks

  • 3 days on campus, 6 half-day online sessions

  • Real-world, practical learning: Strategy, finance, operations, governance, scaling

MBA 30 provides the tools, knowledge, and network that Black entrepreneurs need to build scalable, sustainable, and investor-ready businesses.

Acknowledging Doreen Lawrence and Lord Michael Hastings

Acknowledging Doreen Lawrence and Lord Michael Hastings

Two pillars who have lent their influence and vision to BBI’s mission are Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE and Lord Dr Michael Hastings CBE.

Baroness Doreen Lawrence, whose tireless advocacy for justice and equality has reshaped the nation, stands behind MBA 30 and BBI through her work with the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation — a powerful testament to her commitment to creating access and equity for future generations.

Lord Michael Hastings, Chair of SOAS and BBI, brings decades of leadership across government, corporate, and social sectors. His passionate endorsement, including an inspiring keynote at MBA 30’s launch, underscores the power of education as a tool for transformation.

The MBA 30 Emerging Entrepreneur Awards 2025

Backed by DMG Ventures and Metro, the MBA 30 Emerging Entrepreneur Awards 2025 celebrates Black entrepreneurial excellence — with real-world visibility and impact.

What Makes These Awards Different:

Twelve finalists will be selected by BBI’s board across four categories:

  • Beauty & Wellbeing

  • Fashion

  • Art & Creativity

  • Technology

Each finalist will receive:

  • A full-page feature in Metro’s Money section

  • A professionally produced promotional video

  • National platform to promote their business

  • For the four category winners — a pitch meeting with the CEO of DMG Ventures, with access to £250,000–£1.5 million in investment

This isn’t just recognition — it’s a tangible path to growth and investment.

It’s Already Begun

The Awards officially launched on June 23rd, 2025, with a powerful Metro double-page spread profiling Darren Miller’s journey.

The first finalist featured was Isabelle Pennington-Edmead, a fashion designer introduced to BBI through the King’s Foundation. Her story of resilience and innovation sets the tone for what’s to come.

Eleven more stories will follow — and Black Wall St. Media will be supporting and amplifying each one.

Why We Stand With BBI and MBA 30

At Black Wall St. Media, we don’t just report stories — we create space for them.

Supporting initiatives like MBA 30 is about more than business. It’s about:

  • Changing narratives

  • Creating generational wealth

  • Building what our communities were never given — but always deserved

We believe that access, education, and investment are not luxuries — they are rights. And when Black entrepreneurs are given the tools and support to thrive, the entire economy benefits.

This Is Just the Beginning

These awards are more than a moment — they are a movement.
A catalyst for lasting change.
A spotlight on Black brilliance that refuses to be dimmed.

We’ll continue to share, support, and stand behind every entrepreneur, every story, and every breakthrough that emerges from this transformative initiative.

Let’s keep building — together.
