BBC Apprentice Advisor Tim Campbell MBE and Chef Mellow Join Forces for 2025 Black Talent Awards
As anticipation builds for the return of the Black Talent Awards, organisers have confirmed two standout figures who will help shape this year’s experience: BBC Apprentice advisor Tim Campbell MBE, returning as Awards Ambassador, and Birmingham-born celebrity chef Mellow, who will curate a first-of-its-kind Caribbean-inspired menu.
Taking place at ICC Birmingham on 26 September 2025, the Black Talent Awards stand as the UK’s most purpose-driven celebration of Black professional excellence. More than a ceremony, the event is a national stage for recognition, inspiration, and legacy.
Tim Campbell MBE Returns as Awards Ambassador
Back for his second year, Tim Campbell MBE – businessman, entrepreneur, and the first-ever winner of The Apprentice – will continue to champion the awards’ mission.
“The Black Talent Awards matter because they put a spotlight where it’s long overdue. Visibility changes perceptions, recognition changes careers and opportunity changes lives. When we celebrate trailblazing Black professionals, we’re not just giving applause, we’re fuelling momentum and inspiring others,” said Campbell.
Campbell will help honour finalists across 17 categories, covering sectors from STEM and education to entrepreneurship and the creative industries. The 2025 theme, Impact, highlights professionals making tangible differences in their fields and communities.
Chef Mellow Brings Caribbean Heritage to the Table
For the first time in the awards’ history, guests will enjoy a Caribbean-inspired menu crafted by Chef Mellow of Mellows Restaurant. A proud Brummie whose culinary talent has earned him a global reputation – with clients including Drake and Chris Brown – Mellow promises a dining experience rich in flavour and cultural storytelling.
“As a chef and a proud Brummie, being part of the Black Talent Awards is an honour. This is about more than food – it’s about identity, pride, and showing every aspiring individual that anything is possible,” said Mellow.
Each course will celebrate Caribbean heritage while paying tribute to the cultural roots of nominees and guests.
A Platform for Recognition and Change
Founded by Denise Myers, CEO of Evenfields, the Black Talent Awards were created to spotlight Black talent and drive systemic change in workplaces across the UK. Backed by major partners including Merlin Entertainments, Lloyds Banking Group, Birmingham City University, Barclays, Jaguar Land Rover, EDF, and JCDecaux, the awards continue to provide visibility and opportunity for Black professionals nationwide.
This year’s event will also feature a surprise cultural performance and a new spotlight segment showcasing past winners who have since secured leadership positions, media recognition, and entrepreneurial success.
Founder’s Vision
“We’re not here for optics. The Black Talent Awards are about impact – about creating a stage where real people with real stories can be celebrated, supported, and seen,” said Myers. “It’s a joy to welcome Tim Campbell MBE back as our ambassador, and to showcase incredible cultural talent through Mellows’ cuisine. These moments matter. They remind us what Black excellence looks like – and what’s possible when it’s truly valued.”
