Nadine White has carved a unique niche for herself in both the world of filmmaking and journalism.
Her debut documentary, “Barrel Children: The Families Windrush Left Behind,” which she self-produced, made a significant impact when it was released in UK cinemas in 2023.
The film, which delves into the stories of Caribbean youngsters growing up apart from their Windrush parents before migrating to Britain, garnered critical acclaim and became a UK box-office chart hit.

It was selected for this year’s Essence Film Festival in New Orleans, USA, a prestigious event dedicated to showcasing global Black stories throughout the diaspora. In 2021, she joined The Independent as Britain’s first dedicated Race Correspondent. As one of the leading Black journalists in the UK, Nadine focuses on stories that highlight and explore issues within minoritized communities.
Her journalistic prowess was recognized early on when she was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree. Nadine’s investigative work on the Windrush scandal earned her the Paulette Wilson Windrush Award in 2020.
She also made history by becoming the first Black reporter to be shortlisted for the Paul Foot Award, which honors excellence in investigative reporting.
