Nathaniel Peat to Address COP29 on Climate Action

Nathaniel Peat, a trailblazer in entrepreneurship and sustainability and the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council Representative for the UK (Southern Region), is set to address a global audience at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Invited by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Peat will speak as part of the IOM’s Diaspora for Climate Action (D4C) project, an initiative aimed at amplifying the role of diaspora communities in tackling climate change. This event coincides with the COP29 World Leaders Summit, scheduled from November 11th to 22nd, 2024.

A Leader in Sustainability and Diaspora Engagement

Nathaniel Peat is widely celebrated for his dynamic contributions to sustainability and his commitment to empowering communities. As co-founder of GeNNex Solar, a company that delivers renewable energy solutions to underserved regions in East Africa and the Caribbean, Peat exemplifies how innovation can drive social and environmental progress.

In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Peat serves as a representative on the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council (GJDC), advising Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

He is instrumental in shaping the National Diaspora Policy, which seeks to enhance Jamaica’s national development through active diaspora engagement. His efforts often focus on mobilizing financial and human resources within the diaspora to address pressing global challenges such as climate change.

Speaking at IOM’s Flagship Event

At COP29, Nathaniel Peat will feature in IOM’s event, “Harnessing Global Talent and Finance for Climate Solutions: Lessons from Diaspora Engagement.” He plans to highlight the critical role diaspora communities play in driving impactful climate solutions.

His presentation will address mobilising financial resources through institutions like VM Group Jamaica, leveraging diaspora expertise, and fostering collaborations that yield measurable environmental benefits.

Peat commented on the importance of the diaspora’s role, saying:

“The diaspora has a unique role to play in addressing climate change. By leveraging our global talent and financial resources, we can create sustainable solutions that benefit both our home countries and the wider world.”
