In the pulsating heart of London, a radiant star called Dentaa sparkles. She’s not just a British Ghanaian entrepreneur but a vibrant actress, TV presenter, singer, producer, and manager.

An embodiment of multifaceted talent, she has successfully blurred the boundaries between the arts and entrepreneurial zeal, becoming an influential figure in the UK’s Ghanaian community.

Born in Juaso, a part of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Lady Dentaa, whose real name is Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, moved to the UK when she was just five. From her school days, performing in plays and talent shows, she already showcased signs of someone who was destined for the limelight.

Her early years in the entertainment sector saw her grace British TV dramas like EastEnders and Holby City. Not just limiting herself to acting, Lady Dentaa also had a brief stint as a gospel singer, releasing an album “Wu Ye Nyame” in 2005.

However, it was her foray into television presenting that further boosted her reputation. Shows like “The Dentaa Show”, which highlighted the Ghanaian and African entertainment scene, and her association with reality TV music competition, Mentor IV, solidified her presence in the media world.

Yet, her contributions extend beyond the arts. Dentaa has been a relentless advocate for the Ghanaian community in the UK. In 2009, she brought to life the GUBA (Ghana UK Based Achievements) Awards. These awards were conceptualised to celebrate the outstanding contributions of British-Ghanaians to society.

Established in 2009 by Lady Dentaa (MBE), the GUBA Awards are now celebrating their 14th year of honouring the achievements of the global African diaspora.
The launch event was supported by MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy and numerous dignitaries and ambassadors from the continent, and hosted by Channel 4’s presenter Paul Brunson.
The awards themselves will take place on November 5th at the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane where the theme will be ‘Honouring Beacons of Excellence and Inspiration.

It’s worth noting the resonance of the GUBA awards, as it has been endorsed by an array of dignitaries including former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. This recognition further underscores Dentaa’s dedication to enriching her heritage.

Away from the arts and community service, Lady Dentaa’s prowess also extends to the world of sports. As the manager of the renowned Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan, she’s not just limited to the musical notes of calypso but also understands the rhythmic dance of football. Lady Dentaa was pivotal in the national inclusion of Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong to the Ghana team, showcasing her influence in the football world.

Her accolades aren’t limited to a few sectors; they span across industries and oceans. Dentaa’s achievements have garnered her awards like the African Women in Europe (AWE) Award and the Young Social Entrepreneurs of the Year at the Future 100 Awards.

Her narrative is not just a tale of success but a story of resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to her roots. Whether it’s through her music, shows, or her community initiatives, Lady Dentaa embodies the essence of the Ghanaian spirit, proving that you can take a person out of Ghana, but you can’t take Ghana out of the person.
