Dr Shitsama holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Neurosurgery and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Nairobi. She completed her clinical fellowship with special focus on spine and skull base pathologies at the St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto.
She has been recognized twice as one of the top 40 under 40 women in Kenya for being the first female Neurosurgeon and for her work in mentoring women keen to pursue science related courses.
She is currently a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Sage Surgical Clinic and a Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. She previously served as an Executive Board Director at the Kenya Medical Association.
Dr Shitsama is passionate about medical education and mentorship having mentored several young women at high school and university level. She is currently the mentorship coordinator at the School of Medicine and has recently been appointed as a mentor by Villgro Kenya to provide support to medical startups.
