The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has today set out a comprehensive package of measures to support communities by funding hundreds of positive activities and opportunities for young Londoners in the capital this summer. Find out more HERE
How you can get involved:
Share our refreshed Our London Map with your networks and encourage them to add their organisation. It is a vital resource showing activities and services for children and young people in London by postcode, town, borough, and activity. It is particularly helpful for teachers, youth workers, parents and community organisers so that they can help provide young people with constructive and positive activities: https://www.london.gov.uk/our-london/#top
Please add your organisations activities too! Click on the link HERE then choose the 3 parallel lines in the top right-hand corner of the screen and select ‘Add activity’

Tesco Community Grants Programme !!
The Tesco Community Grants programme is managed nationally by Groundwork. We have been asked by Tesco to encourage applications into the fund from organisations that are delivering work that is tackling knife crime in the capital. If you are working on this important issue and can get a Tesco Community Grant application completed and submitted before the end of August there is a very good chance of securing some top-up funding to support your work.
The application form is simple and can be accessed by clicking on the link below. You can also contact Ben.Dwyer@groundwork.org.uk or Sarayu.Shah@groundwork.org.uk with any questions or help you need to get your application submitted.
If we can demonstrate a really positive response then there could be further Tesco resources earmarked for this sort of activity, both in London and nationally. Multiple bids from organisations working in more than one area are welcome.
Know Your Rights Leaflets!!
I have some boxes of Know Your Rights leaflets in the office which I can now access, if you would like some of these to distribute between your networks please respond to this email in the below format (attached is the PDF version, the physical version folds up into a credit card sized slip);
Borough leaflets will be distributed in
I will aim to finalise the list by mid-August so you are likely to receive your boxes no later than week commencing 23rd.
From a practical perspective the boxes come in packs of 750 so knowing the depleting stationary and packing materials available at City Hall the more you feel that you can distribute the better. If you have any questions or would like to place an order feel free to email me at email@example.com
There is no charge for the leaflets or delivery.

INNOVATE FOR GROWTH
Many young families today rely on inheritance to buy their first home, car or attend university. For some ethnic groups, inheritance is not a right of passage but sheer luck. Windrush parents, when arriving in the UK, could not find housing, could never get a mortgage to buy a home or grow wealth to maybe pass onto their children or grandchildren. Some were lucky and were able to do this later as attitudes began to shift.
Did you know?
63% of households in England owned their own homes in the two years from 2016 to 2018.
68% of White British households owned their own homes, compared with 74% of Indian households.
Households in the Black African (20%) and Arab (17%) ethnic groups had the lowest rates of homeownership in every socio-economic group and age group.
White British households were more likely to own their own homes than all ethnic minority households combined.
Teaching financial literacy to break this cycle of inequality is important. We need to teach our future generation how to manage money, legitimately grow wealth and create a sustainable future for their own family.
Seek financial education and share it with your children…
The myth that young people are supposed to endure abusive work environments as a rite of passage into the labor market skims over the systemic issues that allow those environments to persist in the first place. https://yhoo.it/3g1EqZW
